If you are not aware for regular backup of blog database then possibly you are taking a high risk. Your blog might be died due to unavailability of backup in case of some emergencies. Actually self hosted WordPress is not so easy to manage and you have to do much more regarding blog security,SEO and backup.

Using Gmail for automatic database backup is safest I think

There are some WordPress plugins available to make WordPress database automatically and post this database on Gmail too regularly. So if you are so lazy and not able to backup your blog database regularly then you should use this perfect method to secure your blog.

WP-DB Manager Plugin

  • Download and install the plugin
  • You can also search and install the plugin read more here
  • After plugin activation create a folder named backup-db in wp-content folder if it does not exist
  • Now give the full ftp permissions to this folder i.e 777 ( Read detailed article how to use FTP and how to change file permissions )
  • Now access plugin options in settings tab and go to DB Options
  • Here you can schedule your database automatic backup daily. Use the options like this;
